Description of organisation
In Sweden there is a law, under the education act, that says that all municipalities must keep themselves informed about what every youth 16-20 years of age are doing. The ones that attends secondary school are not under that responsibility. At the Activity Responsibility we work with drop-outs, youths who never attend to secondary school and those who never graduated from elementary school. Many of them are youth with fewer opportunities and/or neuropsychiatric disabilities. Our job is to find the youths, contact them and offer them a meeting where we together tries to find their way towards the future. Activities that may help them towards an education or some kind of employment are the key topics.
We offer youths internship, EVS/ESC and different kind of non-formal education as many of the youths we meet are not ready, or doesn’t have any will, for formal education. Besides EVS/ESC and internship we offer them a program where they can pick topics that follow their interests and needs. The working methods is mainly group discussions and workshops.
We think that doing international volunteering activities is something that may help young people find their way into the education and/or labor market. Youth that are not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETs) are a growing problem in Europe. It is not an isolated problem in each country. We all have similar situations and we think it is important to cooperate to find solutions for young people who are in a NEET situation. Projects within the Erasmus+/ESC program is very good and makes it easy for staff in different countries to cooperate around the issue.
We offer placements as digital guides for volunteers at ”Trainstation”, a digital Youth Centre. ”Trainstation” is supposed to be a place for integration and development of new ideas. Young people gets a digital platform to stand on at the same time they discover new things and boost their self-confidence. It is a physical, open meeting place for digital creation where they want to satisfy young peoples needs of knowledge and guidance in digital creation.
Participants at ”Trainstation” can create music, video games, robots, printing on fabric, make their own pod radio etc.
