Description of organisation

Ijgd (Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste) is a non-profit, non-governmental association and since 1940 active in the field of international youth work and thus one of the oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. In addition to workcamps, which are part of ijgd´s programme since it´s very beginnings, other forms of voluntary services in Germany and abroad are part of our work. These include various national voluntary services such as the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ), as well as the Federal Volunteer Service (BFD).
In addition, the ijgd Landesverein Nordrhein-Westfalen has been active for several years in the Erasmus+ program, the former EVS program and the current ESK program.
The main focuses of our work are intercultural understanding, international encounters, social and ecological services, heritage protection and to enable people to actively create community life and to give the opportunity to broaden their horizons. IJGD is a one of the founders and a full member organization of the “Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisation” network, through which young people from Germany who are age 14-30 years can take part in over 2000 projects worldwide.
IJGD trains the leadership of all of its projects in Germany in 5-10 day seminars. This training and the experience as a leader can be accepted as an internship for pedagogical studies and are eligible for an application for JuLeiCa. Participants, youth leaders and junior trainers can take part in further education training courses concerning political/pedagogical and artistic/cultural issues to advance their education. Topics IJGD is mostly active in, apart from international volunteering and intercultural learning, are teenage education, gender equality, sustainable development and social inclusion.

„Die ijgd (Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste e.V.) sind eine gemeinnützige Organisation, die seit 1949 im Feld der internationalen Jugendarbeit aktiv ist und daher zu einer der ältesten Freiwilligendienstorganisationen in Deutschland zählt. Zusätzlich zu den seit Beginn zum Programm gehörenden Workcamps gehören mittlerweile auch andere Freiwilligendienste in Deutschland und International zu unserem Repertoire. Dazu gehören unter anderem verschiedene nationale Freiwilligendienste wie das Freiwillige Soziale Jahr (FSJ), sowie der Bundesfreiwilligendienst (BFD). Außerdem ist der ijgd Landesverein Nordrhein-Westfalen zusätzlich bereits seit einigen Jahren aktiv in den Programmen Erasmus+ und dem früheren Programm EVS bzw. dem jetzigen ESK Programm. Das Hauptaugenmerk unserer Arbeit ist interkulturelles Verständnis, internationale Begegnungen, soziale und ökologische Dienste, Denkmalpflege und junge Menschen dazu zu verhelfen aktiv das gemeinschaftliche Leben zu gestalten und ihren Horizont zu erweitern. Ijgd ist Gründungsmitglied der „Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations“ und von Beginn an volles Mitglied. Die Alliance ist ein Netzwerk, durch welches sich jährlich Jugendliche zwischen 14 und 30 Jahren in ca. 2000 Projekten weltweit freiwillig einsetzen können. Dir Gruppenleiter*innen für alle unsere Projekte werden von ijgd in 5-10 tätigen Ausbildungsseminaren selbst ausgebildet. Diese Ausbildungsseminare und die Erfahrung als Leiter*in in unseren Projekten können als Praktikum für das Studium z.B.: der sozialen Arbeit anerkannt werden und es besteht die Möglichkeit die JuLeiCa zu beantragen. Teilnehmer*innen, Gruppenleiter*innen und Junior Trainer*innen haben außerdem die Möglichkeit an weiterführenden Fortbildungen teilzunehmen.“
