The Special School in Kwidzyn was founded on 01.01.1957 by the resolution of the WRN Presidium in Gdansk. Since that day, we have started to organize the special education in Kwidzyn from the very basics.
The imperative aim of the Special School’s functioning is the preparation of the mentally handicapped child to participate in the social and vocational life independently in integration with the environment.
The school deals with the education, upbringing and revalidation of children with intellectual disabilities of mild, moderate and severe disability and conjugated disabilities and autism. Work with a child is based on individual educational and therapeutic programs, developed for each student based on the diagnosis and recommendations contained in the decision issued by the psychological and pedagogical counseling center.

Organizational structure, where kids can learn in:
Special Junior High School
- 1 department with students with mild intellectual disability,
- 2 departments with students with moderate and severe intellectual disability.

Special School - Adaptation to Work - 5 departments
Work Adaptation School - for people with moderate and severe intellectual disability and conjugate disability up to 24 years old.
Fields of education with practical classes in local companies:
- helper of the gardener and arborist,
- Cook's helper,
- business worker assistant,
- daily life practise.

Revalidation and Education Department for children with severe intellectual disability up to age of 25 - 4 departments
Classes include in particular:
- learning how to establish social contacts,
- communication with the environment - AAC,
- movement improvement (swimming pool classes,
- sensory integration, physiotherapy, horse riding),
- implementation to achieve the optimal level of independence,
- developing interest in the surroundings, strengthening activity.

The most basic aims are:
- giving support in the comprehensive personal development of the student as much as they individually need it in the intellectual, physical, emotional, moral, spiritual and health aspects;
- preparing the child to fulfil different social roles as a parent, worker, member of the local society and a resident; helping the child’s family in the educational process; gaining social approval in the local surroundings for the actions for the sake of the mentally handicapped child.
The school provides the students with: educating that is adjusted to both the psychological and physical abilities of the child; individual work during the corrective compensatory classes and the didactic compensatory ones; participation in the rehabilitation periods and “The Green School” classes; individual work with the school speech therapist; corrective exercises;
the help of the pedagogue as well as the psychologist in solving various problems (there is also a consultation point for students’ parents); professional care of the school nurse, a possibility to get accommodation in the boarding school; getting food at the school canteen; participation in various forms of school clubs of interests and student organizations .

Main areas of school activities are:
-Sport (different disciplines), we are taking part in the Special School Olympic Championships, “Keep Fit” programme, Recreational Clubs - horse riding;
-The artistic events, dance club, art club, FICTION theatre club and more;
- Ecological movement, supporting ecological organization (Earth Day, Cleaning the world etc.), running school ecological and touristic club;
- Scout Team "Forest Sprats"; Mathematical Club for high school students,
- Local activism “A Day without Violence” has been organized at our school for a dozen or so years and its main aim is to shape proper social attitudes,
-Social actions (collecting money for ill children, collecting money for poor families etc),
-International programme: exchange with Estonian special school, “Global School” programme,

There is a project organized at our school that is financed by the EU resources within the scope of the European Social Fund
“Believe in Yourself – extracurricular classes for the children of a special school in the district of Kwidzyn”.
All the children can participate in the project classes which are: “The window to the world” – maths and IT classes, the natural science and photography workshops with the usage of maths and IT knowledge, “I am enterprising”, “Arts Therapy”, Awareness and Cultural Expression, zoo therapy: “The horse as my friend”, “The Wolf” – I play and learn with my friend – dog, sensory integration,, preventive classes for girls related to early motherhood and fatherhood, preventive classes for boys and girls who are socially excluded or in danger of social exclusion.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
