Description of organisation

Associação Tá a Mexer was founded in 1998 by a group of young people that used to organise activities together. They found support from the municipality of Lourinhã and decided to create a formal Association. The main aims were then to provide training to the young people involved, as well as to create activities for their free time.
The Association grew to more challenging aims. In 2015, a new service started: the Free Time Occupational Centre, which daily welcomes 6-to-12-year-old children before and after school, with transportation, academic support when doing school homework, and play rooms equipped with age-appropriate didactic and fun games, toys and materials, apart from planned activities for each age. There is also a tutoring service for older children, and certified training courses for adults.
The Association has a complementary activity of Event Entertainment, either local celebrations or private parties, for which we have a specific space.
Finally, we have an International Division whose aims are to welcome international volunteers, and provide them with close contact with our organisation and our children.
Nowadays, the aims of Tá a Mexer are:
- To provide children with a healthy environment before and after school, as well as to development of social and educational skills;
- To promote academic success in our study room and tutoring rooms;
- To welcome national and international volunteers;
- To participate and be present at local events.
