Description of organisation

Radio LOHRO is a non-commercial free radio and project of Kulturnetzwerk e.V. It was conceived in 2005 as a "join-in radio", which means that everyone who wants to get involved is also given the opportunity to do so. The project sees itself as inclusive, which is why it is aimed at people of all ages and nationalities - but also at people from problematic social contexts or with physical limitations. LOHRO offers a wide range of activities: about 150 volunteers are involved in various editorial departments that produce music programmes (such as funk, soul, punk, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, etc.) or thematic programmes (such as the environment, literature, gaming or politics) - programmes on the topics of inclusion or LGBTIQ, as well as an Arabic-language show, are also an integral part of the station. LOHRO sensitises the contributors to get involved in social processes in a positive and responsible way. Their work is therefore characterised by a high degree of self-determination and co-design. To achieve this goal, LOHRO teaches its participants both media and social skills. The former means that individuals use media in a self-determined way and with a critical distance. They can only do this when they have the necessary competence in dealing with the technical conditions of media making. Social competence is seen as the totality of all those abilities and attitudes of a person that contribute to aligning one's own individual wishes and ideas with the common goals of a group.
