Description of organisation

Directorate of Kurtuvėnai Regional Park (DKRP) takes care of maintenance and protection of regional park. The main tasks of the Directorate's activities - to ensure the protection of natural and cultural heritage, to organize the restoration of destroyed complexes, create conditions for development of cognitive tourism and recreation, to carry out other educational and cultural activities.
Kurtuvėnai Regional Park (KRP) was established in 1992 with the aim to preserve the hilly landscape of Kurtuvėnai suroundings, the natural ecosystem and cultural heritage values. The park covers more than 17 thousand. ha and it is one of most wooded parks in Lithuania. The main value - hills, overgrown with forests, hiding tiny forest lakes and streams, what creates high level of biodiversity - from light pinewoods till dark fir groves, from sandy grassland till swamps. The park is famous of Kurtuvėnai manor estate and it's wooden granary build in baroque style.
Park staff constantly monitors state of the protected area - every year valuates habitats and plants species in sensitive areas, monitors visitors impact. In addition of maintenance of the park, Directorate provides tourism and leisure services for visitors: information in Visitors Center, Riding School, equestrian tourism and hippotherapy in Horse Riding Center, accommodation in the camping and nature education activities in Nature School. Kurtuvenai RP is suburban park, located near Šiauliai town, so the main visitors are families from Šiauliai and school groups.
