People's Theater is a non-profit organization working in the area of child and youth welfare. Over the past 20 years we specialized in the fields of youth participation and engagement as well as in conducting nonformal theater based/cultural educational programs in schools.
Through our projects we aim at promoting skills, capabilities, insights and values, which help promote peace and foster acts of service towards others. Furthermore, we are always engaged in developing ways to engage the younger generation in social action.
We do so by involving and training volunteers aged 16 to 30, which join the association for up to 18 months for voluntary service. The volunteers carry out projects mainly with pupils in schools all over Germany.
The projects carried out by the volunteers and accompanied by our professional staff, aim at engaging into a meaningful dialogue with pupils in the age range between 7 and 18. Through the implementation of theatrical methods (Theater of the oppressed/Forum Theater) People's Theater aims at promoting conflict resolution strategies for social challenges such as bullying, social exclusion, and promotes personal and social skills within children and teens. We aim at contributing to democracy learning, inclusion, processes of integration and prevention.
Since the beginning People's Theater has had the honor of hosting, training and accompanying over 250 youth with diverse ethnic, educational and religious backgrounds, as long-term volunteers.
