Leonard Cheshire Disability is the UK’s leading charity supporting people with disability. Every year, we support thousands of people in the UK and around the world with physical and learning disabilities to fulfill their potential and live the lives they choose.
We work to create a society in which every person is equally valued. We believe that people with disabilities should have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose - with the opportunity and support to live independently, to contribute economically and to participate fully in society. This belief is at the heart of everything we do.
For over 65 years, we have supported people with disabilities in many different ways to ensure that their opinions are heard, their values respected and needs met. This includes providing care in people’s own homes, in supported rented accommodation, in residential homes, in day centres and through respite services.
We make a difference to the lives of thousands of people by supporting them to develop skills through our employment, education, enterprise, health, volunteering and digital inclusion projects. We campaign alongside people with disabilities to bring about changes for the better, and to challenge ignorance and unfairness in society. Internationally, we are part of a Global Alliance of Leonard Cheshire charities that works to improve the lives of disabled people in 54 countries.
We support disabled people to have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose — with the opportunity and support to live independently, contribute economically and participate fully in society.
In Edinburgh we have 12 small residential units, with 6-10 service users living in them and the core values that all staff and volunteers work to are: Valuing the Individual, Working together, Honesty, Creativity, Energy
Our aims are to enable people with disabilities to live their lives in an independent way. We achieve this by:
* Enabling people to do activities they enjoy such as swimming, going to the cinema and meeting friends for dinner or going on holiday. Both staff and volunteers support these activities.
* Planning for the future through person centred planning for everyone. An individualised plan to facilitate reaching goals and achieving day to day successes.
* Providing living environments, which are supportive and safe with caring staff.
Alemoor is residential care home supporting 6 adults with physical and learning disabilities. The staff at Alemoor provide the personal care and structured support for the 6 service users, but it is the volunteers who can give extra time and attention to the service users. Enabling them to socialise and access the local community.
