Rota Vicentina - Association for the promotion of Nature Tourism in the Alentejo and Vicentina Coast, is a non-profit organization founded on 5th June 2013. Its primary purpose is to manage, maintain, integrate, empower, and promote the touristic product represented by Rota Vicentina.
Beyond establishing paths, the project aims to integrate with the region's tourism offerings and local communities, gaining national and international exposure. As a public structure, Rota Vicentina targets not only tourists (both national and international) but also the local communities, seeking to become a defining characteristic of the region. Walking, a natural human practice, plays a crucial role in the project by contributing to the sustainability of rural areas. This is achieved through promoting economic activity, stimulating existing activities and services, preserving and enhancing local culture and traditions, encouraging new business creation, and promoting off-season destination visits.
The objectives of Rota Vicentina include:
• Establishing Southwest Portugal as an international nature tourism destination, raising awareness of the region's environmental and cultural significance;
• Regulating walker passage through environmentally sensitive areas;
• Consolidating the development network involving companies, institutions, and the local population;
• Stimulating the existing tourist offerings during the medium/low season and generating new business opportunities.
