description of organisation

Aims
A SEED Europe (Action for Solidarity, Equality, Environment and Diversity Europe) is an international youth organisation based in Amsterdam.
One of A SEED's main goals is to raise awareness about issues around agriculture and food production by:
• Showing the links between food production and climate change,
• Promoting sustainable agriculture practices, food sovereignty and seed freedom,
- Empowering youths to be active EU citizens and encouraging their participation regarding those issues,
- Connecting movements, initiatives and people who are working on the same topics.

Target groups
Our campaigning is targeted at the general public and at young people in particular. A SEED also works together with farmers organizations and take part in international farmers coalitions concerning the issues we campaign on. Our activities and publications are targeted at grassroots organizations, youth groups and collectives, NGOs, student groups and alike. Most of our campaign activities occur in the local and national environment, with the idea to encourage a change on these campaign issues starting from 'home'.

Regular activities
The awareness raising campaign work consists of promoting discussions, organizing debates and public events as well as producing and distributing publications on the campaigned issues. Our activities include the organising of network meetings, workshops and trainings, info-nights, film screenings, street events.

Some examples of regular activities:
- Reclaim the Seeds, an annual seed weekend in the Netherlands including a seed fair, lectures, workshops and local excursions.
- Agriculture action camps: a week of networking for youth movements busy with agriculture and environmental - issues to discuss and plan together a more sustainable future.
- Info dinners: regular educative events to raise awareness on the social-economic, intercultural and environmental aspects of food and to provide a space for debate which stimulates youth participation.

Others relevant activities
In addition, A SEED is regularly involved in international projects on the topic of food sovereignty. Recent examples are the Voedsel Anders conferences that took place in Wageningen University and Research Center in 2014 and 2016. A SEED also took part in the organisation of the Monsanto Tribunal, an international citizens tribunal to hold the agrochemical corporation accountable for its acts. The latter took place in The Hague in October 2016 and attracted participants (750) from all around the world. Finally, in each of the last four ASEED organised the annual Food Autonomy Festival - a festival that offers and celebrates sustainable alternatives to the food and climate crises.
