Description of organisation

Municipality of Lavis is located in the north east of Italy, in the autonomous province of Trento, 10 km north of Trento, in the south of the Rotaliana plain, along the Adige Valley. Currently it has about 9000 inhabitants. In Lavis there is a primary and secondary school, with around 900 children from 5 to 14 years old. Young people between attend highschool in the nearby cities (Trento, Mezzolambardo and San Michele).

Comune di Lavis delivers a range of services that are briefly described below:
1. Services to the citizens: services for children and families, social activities and youth policies, support for the educational and sport initiatives, cultural activities and public library.
2. Technical services: planning and building transformations of the territory, as well as maintanence services for public buildings, sports facilities and other.
Many of the local young people take part in sport, art and music activities organized by several associations in the area (around 80). Lavis has one of the highest percentage, at a national level, of associations and clubs in respect to the residential population. Many young people participate in initiatives promoted by the local administration, within the youth policies, with the main aim of promoting multiculturality.
Comune di Lavis promotes “Families in Trentino”, a programme designed for the well being of families, as well at the “Ecofesta” project, promoting best practices regarding waste management.

The main role of the volunteers is to collaborate with the staff of Comune di Lavis with the Service of Youth Policies and the youth center Lavis, supporting regular activities offered to young people, as well as suggesting new cultural and recreational initiatives. In collaboration with the Service of Youth Policies, the ESC volunteer will:
1. promote and support projects in favor of youth;
2. manage the youth center open hours for young people aged between 18 and 25 (on Monday 17:30 to 22:30, Tuesday – Friday 14:00 to 19:00)
3. collaborate in the development of project proposals within the youth centers Lavis and Zambana
4. promote summer initiatives for children and young people
5. collaborate in the activation, tutoring and supervision of Civil Service projects at national and provincial level.
6. collaborate with other offices and within the youth centers ('Lavis and Zambana' and 'Rotaliana') in improving the promotion of the heritage of the territory.
