Description of organisation
Kona is a community-based organization aiming to (i) contribute to regional development in Georgia, (ii) work with youth and children and (iii) organize educational activities (including non-formal education). Our target groups are youth, people living in rural areas, children, parents and educators. We run a community and youth centre in the village Kvemo Chala (Shida Kartli region, Kaspi municipality, close to the administrative border line with South Ossetia) where we concentrate the majority of our activities. We also work in surrounding villages and we cooperate with several organizations from different rural regions of Georgia.
Since 2018, Kona has been running the programme "Be INvolved" which aims to support youth participation and realization of youth initiatives in rural areas. We empower young people to be active players in their lives and changemakers in their communities. Young people participate in the diagnosis of local problems and needs, they plan the solution and design their own local initiatives.
In 2023 we opened our own youth and community centre in Kvemo Chala, which allows us to organize regular educational activities. At our Kona centre, we offer different workshops, English language classes, art lessons, youth club and other activities for different target groups (youth, children, parents with children, elderly people). The centre is run as a social enterprise, being a hub for community actions.
