Description of organisation

Our organization is non-governmental and non-profit-making. It is a Community Center, which works for the local community.
Casa do Povo de São Bartolomeu de Messines has as its mission to contribute to the development of the community in the social, educational, sports, cultural and leisure area, guided by an integrated service of quality and proximity.
In the social and educational services we have a Nursery (for babies and children from 3 months up to 3 years old), Kindergarten (for children from 3 up to 5 years old), a Free Time Activities Center / Youth Space/ Activities of Curricular Enrichment (for the children from 6 years up to 14 years old). In this area we receive 1684 children.
In the Community Center we hold activities in the areas of Social and Community Support, of Cultural Activities, Sports Activities and Leisure Activities.
In the Social Community support area we provide Bank Food, Social Canteen, and Occupational Activities for people with special needs. In these activities we have almost 350 participants.
In the Cultural Area we provide classic guitars and accordion and ballet lessons and a group of traditional songs. In these activities we have almost 40 participants.
In the Sports Areas, we provide handball and handball for people with special needs, giravolei, gymnastic, futsal, wrestling greco-romano, traditions stick game, hidroginastic, swimming lessons, body fitness and athletics. The target group are children, young people and the adults. In this areas we have almost 2000 participants.
In the Formative Area, we provide a several workshops for the local community and for the foreigner community – Portuguese Lessons with almost 40 participants.
In the Youth Activities Area, we develop non formal educational on the local school and in the organization for the Youths.
We also have a space for a holiday camp / hostel to develop activities like exchanges.
All these activities are regular, with punctual activities we have theather and cultural events and a several of sports punctual events related with regular ones.
All the activities of our organization are situated in the same building except the Activities of Curricular Enrichment and the Aquatic Activities.
