Description of organisation

JRS has been present in Croatia since 1993. JRS actively assists refugees, detainees, asylum seekers and other forcibly displaced people through its everyday presence, individual approach, psycho social support and also creating strong advocacy strategies for promotion of rights of refugee. JRS has an experienced and motivated staff and a network of volunteers and supporters who understand the needs of the targeted population. JRS has established good relations with non-governmental organizations and has gained the reputation of a trusted partner, including among its beneficiaries. JRS has experience conducting public debates and campaigns as well as raising public awareness of refugee and migrant issues. JRS has also worked with government authorities in formulating fair and effective integration policies. Through its years of work in the field, JRS has developed insight into the general attitude of the Croatian people towards refugee issues as well as into possible ways of effecting change for the better. Currently, the JRS office in Croatia employs 15 people: country manager, project officer, integration coordinator, social worker, psychologist, communications officer, advocacy officer, social assistant/community officer, legal officer and 5 interpreters / cultural mediators (for Arabic and Persian language) and collaborates with approximately 50 volunteers. Activities in which JRS volunteers have participated are creative workshops for vulnerable groups (women and children), psycho social support through workshops, sporting activities, work in a computer classroom and computer classes, language classes, "soft skills" classes and searching for employment, searching for housing for beneficiaries of IP etc.
As of 2019-20 JRS Croatia is mostly focused on integration activities with people granted international protection. Our efforts are put into ensuring people get language courses, are connected with employers, children get help with school assignments etc. JRS is in charge of fostering the integration of resettled refugees.
