Description of organisation

Acting Now was set up by a group of citizens who strongly believe in human beings and the capacity of marginalised people to raise their voices. Acting Now runs theatre projects that aim to promote in the participants self-awareness, hope for the future and confidence to take action. We work with marginalised group such as adults with learning disabilities, people with mental health challenges, the homeless, youth at risk of offending, vulnerable women. We run theatre projects as follow:
-We run inclusive theatre projects. We use the language of theatre with marginalised groups of varying abilities to enable them to find their voices in a safe and encouraging environment. Throughout weekly workshops, we also build social and emotional skills, self-expression and self-esteem and address the stigma attached to certain conditions.
- Changemakers, tools to prevent marginalizations in schools. Aimed at schools. It is a programme of theatrical workshops intended to help students make better more informed life choices. We offer a range of workshops; Bullying and Cyber-bullying, Internet Safety and Social Networks, Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol or Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy. We have been working with over 80 students, 4 schools and youth centres.
-Performances; In order to give people in need voices we enable participants to tell their stories through the use of theatre language and collaborative scripts. As for our audience, our aim is to establish a dialogue between them and the stage. Last year over 350 spectators came to see our plays.
