description of organisation

Ådum Kindergarten is a Danish kindergarten that specifically focuses on sport and movement. In the kindergarten, there are approx 65 children in total and it is an integrated institution with a nursery, kindergarten and afterschool program (SFO). Besides caring for Danish children, we also care for many children from other countries than Denmark. In this specific area of Denmark, a lot of Eastern European citizens work in farming, factories etc, and we care for their children, so the environment in the kindergarten is naturally intercultural, which we consider a big asset. Therefore we aim to make inclusion a focal point in our institution. We work with this and reflect on it, and we understand that this influences the children daily from a very young age, which is why this is an important matter to handle well. Having an international volunteer is a vital part of the inclusion process on a daily basis.

We are a DIF (Dansk Idrætsforbund/Danish sports Confederation) certified kindergarten where sports, games and movement are a natural and integrated part of our pedagogic work. Besides the physical - and intercultural focus, we aim to work with the Danish mandatory pedagogical curriculums, which require us to focus on the following: the individual child’s learning, development and well-being. Moreover, we also work with the term appreciative pedagogy and structure and routines in everyday life.
