Description of organisation

TEKIRDAG IL MILLI EGITIM MÜDÜRLÜGÜ - TEKIRDAG MEM (Tekirdag Provincial Directorate of National Education) is affiliated to Ministry of National Education of Turkish Republic. Established in 1923, TEKIRDAG MEM provides general education for the pupils and adults in Tekirdag. In addition to all comprehensive schools in formal education (the Pre-school education, primary education, and secondary education) Education Department’s operations cover all non-formal education (regular upper secondary schools, vocational institutions, apprenticeship training and young people’s workshop activities). TEKIRDAG MEM promotes a high quality education service for 137,678 pupils in over 472 pre-school centres, primary and secondary schools and special schools and units and vocational institutions. The Directorate is responsible for administering educational policy on pre-school and school education, children, young people and adults. The operations are in line with the national educational policy developed by the Ministry of National Education of Turkish Republic which is consistent with the European Union policy in the education and training domains. There are 9 Public Education centers in the province which are coordinated and operated by TEKIRDAG MEM. The public centers organize many courses for adults, the migrants, minority communities including Roma such as literacy courses ,vocational and technical course (ICT, handcrafts, beauty and hair care services, painting, property consultancy , etc.), Cultural courses (folk dances, Foreign Language mainly in English, chess, drama and theatre etc). The Directorate itself organizes in-service training programs for teachers to promote their skills in teaching different subjects such as, Turkish, ICT, foreign languages, etc. Our directorate organizes these courses for adults in Public Education centers and cooperates with the other institutions to promote their skills.
