Description of organisation

NGO NEST Berlin was born in 2016 out of an initiative by young professionals in the fields of NGO,
Social Innovation, European projects, European mobility, Networking and Non Formal Education
methods.
The organization aims at advancing human, social and socioeconomic development of young people
through creating and deploying a multilayered set of educational activities targeted at young people
in cooperation with NGOs and stakeholders at the different levels. This aim will be pursued through
an emphasis on networking with NGOs and stakeholder entities encompassing the
local/regional/national dimensions (joint elaboration and implementation of educational programmes
delivered through Non Formal Education methods involving different targets of the youth population )
as well as the European sphere (European project design, establishment of European networks of
NGOs and stakeholders, offer of European mobility opportunities to young people).
NEST Berlin at the same time operates in connection with NGOs and stakeholders at the European
level for the purpose of exchanging best practices in youth work and youth education, with the main
aim of representing a transnational hub of innovation in NGO practices and coordination schemes
between NGOs and stakeholders in Europe.
The organization manages “MITOSIS”, a co-working space in Berlin. The spaces represents an
open hub of collaboration and innovation participated by a disparate set of local and international
professionals working in fields as diverse as Programming, Art and Philosophy.
A cross-cutting driver of NEST NGO’s action is represented by the attention to the valorization and
diffusion of the potential of Non Formal Education (NFE) methods as a crucial pathway towards a
more impacting and inclusive education functional to the environment and peculiarities of NGO
actors. For instance, Non-formal learning activities are frequently based on private initiatives by
NGOs. NEST acts to promote the advancement of NFE methods as well as the establishment of
synergies among formal, non-formal and informal educational methodologies and environments.

Die NGO NEST wurde im Dezember 2016 aufgrund einer Initiative von Nachwuchskräften aus den Bereichen NGO, Soziale Innovation, Europäische Projekte, Europäische Mobilität, Vernetzung und nicht-formale Bildung gegründet. Im 2019 NGO NEST hat eine neu Büro auf dem Campus Hochschule Bonn Rheinsieg gegründet.

Ziel der Organisation ist die Förderung der menschlichen, sozialen und sozioökonomischen Entwicklung junger Menschen durch die Schaffung und den Einsatz eines vielschichtigen Bildungsangebots vor allem für junge Menschen. Dieses Ziel soll durch durch die Vernetzung mit Nichtregierungsorganisationen und Interessengruppen auf verschiedenen Ebenen erreicht werden, und zwar sowohl auf nationaler Ebene (gemeinsame Ausarbeitung und Umsetzung von Bildungsprogrammen, die durch nicht formale Bildungsmethoden mit unterschiedlichen Zielen der Jugendbevölkerung durchgeführt werden) sowie auf europäischer Ebene (europäische Projektgestaltung, Einrichtung europäischer Netze von NRO und Interessengruppen, Angebot europäischer Mobilitätsangebote für junge Menschen, etc.).

Mit NGOs und Interessengruppen auf europäischer Ebene arbeitet NGO NEST bezüglich des Austauschs von Best Practices in der Jugendarbeit und Jugendbildung zusammen. Das Hauptziel ist es dabei NGO NEST als eine transnationale Innovationsdrehscheibe für NGO-Praktiken und Koordinationsmechanismen zwischen NROs und Interessengruppen in Europa zu etablieren.

Besonders stehen für NGO NEST die Durchfühung von Maßnahmen im Focus, die eine Aufwertung und Verbreitung non-formaler-Bildung (Non-Formal-Education (NFE)) beinhalten, da dies als ein entscheidender Weg zu einer wirkungsvollen und inklusiven Bildung angesehen wird und den Besonderheiten der Arbeit von NGOs im Bildungsumfeld gerecht wird. So basieren non-formale Lernaktivitäten häufig auf privaten Initiativen von NGOs. NGO NEST fördert die Weiterentwicklung non-formaler NFE-Methoden sowie die Schaffung von Synergien zwischen formalen, nicht-formalen und informellen Bildungsmethoden und -umfeldern.
