ARTE.M is a cultural and artistic association located on the island of Madeira, Portugal. We are devoted to the promotion of culture, cultural education, artistic expression and search. Our mission is creating the conditions for the harmonious development of personality, well-being, self-expression, lifelong learning and continuous improvement.
We strive to become a catalyst for cultural processes and be an educational resource for the broader audiences in Madeira.
ARTE.M aims to elevate the social culture of Madeira through thought-provoking art experiences that stimulate intellectual exploration, curiosity, and independent thought. Among such experiences are workshops and lectures by local and international artists, open discussions and social projects that take place in Funchal and other parts of Madeira. As a group of enthusiasts, we’ve been working on artistic and educational projects since 2015, and the non-profit association under the name ARTE.M was formed in 2018. We cooperate with various cultural institutions and governmental initiatives in Madeira, and our greatest supporter is Art Gallery Caravel where we are based in Funchal.

Our priorities:
Serving the art of Madeira and Portugal, providing the variety of opportunities to create, present and develop the art aiming at increasing the popularity of the art of Madeira and Portugal;
Developing volunteer campaigns with the aim to provide the space for the harmonious development of young people, improving their skills related to working in artistic areas and thus improving their employability;
Educational support both of the artists and of the art researchers, providing tools and techniques for discovering the latest tendencies, supporting the practice of discovering the local art;
Creating the artistic bridge between the island of Madeira and other parts of the world through establishing connections with artistic entities who share our values and Portuguese descendants in other countries;
Participation in the cultural development provided by the public authorities, charity projects, expanding the cultural heritage of Madeira.
ARTE.M works with various groups in terms of age and background: we organize activities both for youngsters and adults in the form of educative seminars, workshops, study visits. Our art residency programme is open for artists of 18+. We also have special activities aimed to support artists from a challenging economic background.
