Description of organisation

Trier is Germany's oldest city - and it is a very innovative and with about 20,000 stu-dents a very young city. It is characterised by a high quality of life and enormous po-tential in science, business and culture. Social responsibility, tolerance and openness determine togetherness.

Due to the complex tasks within the administration, the mayor shares the tasks with his deputies, who each take over a specific division of the city administration. They are bound by the decisions of the city council and the general guidelines of the mayor.

In the city administration of Trier, four business areas are to be distinguished:
• Department I: Administrative Control, Finance, Urban Development and Economic Promotion
• Department II: Schools and Sport, Education, Social Affairs, Housing, Youth and Work
• Department III: Culture, Tourism, City Marketing, Security and Order
• Department IV: Environment, planning, construction and transport

The tasks, functions and obligations of the mayor are manifold. The main topics in the mayor's office include, among others:
a) communication
This includes, on the one hand, political communication and advice for the mayor and maintaining contacts with decision-makers in politics, business and social in-stitutions. On the other hand, the communication and coordination of tasks within the administration is a central task.
b) International relations
The aim of international relations is the coordination, design and supervision of in-ternational activities. In addition to the nine city partnerships in Europe, Asia and America, the team is also responsible for the coordination of the Trier representa-tion of the QuattroPole city network and the cross-border network EuRegio Saar-LorLux+.
c) Municipal development policy
This includes the implementation of the “Action Plan UN-Agenda 2023” and the UN sustainability goals at local level.
d) Municipal internal funding advice
The aim of the funding advice is to support the tasks and activities of the munici-pality through the acquisition of funding (EU, federal government, state). It is the central point of contact for funding issues, it advises the offices on the selection of funding programmes and assists them in submitting applications.

The topics and related activities in the Mayor's office further strengthen transnational cooperation, European solidarity and intercultural awareness.
