description of organisation

CEMÉA Occitanie is a regional association with a multidimensional identity:
- a new educational movement,
- a popular education association,
- a professional training organization,
- a social and solidarity economy company,
- a space for experimentation and research.

CEMÉA Occitanie acts in the fields of education, social action, culture and sociocultural animation.

Nationally recognized as public-interest organization, CEMÉA Occitanie carries a solid collective experience: the association is part of a network of CEMÉAs in France and internationally, supported by a national association, a network that keeps the education movement alive for 80 years.
In Occitanie, since 1986, CEMÉA's activities have included volunteers, employees, trainees, associated organisations, present in many cities of the region to exchange and transmit their social and societal commitment.

Its actions starts by the meeting between people, ideas, projects, who commit themselves together tocreate, innovate and promote new ideas. We are the place of a permanent pedagogical research to propose, experiment and develop relevant social interventions, and to enable each person to engage and create society.

CEMÉA intend to spread a militant goal through all their activities : the diffusion and the experience of the values of the New Education movement inspired by great pedagogues (such as Montessori, Freinet, Merieux, Cousinet, De Failly). Our main way of action is the training of youth workers, teachers and all professionnals involved in education issues. The Centres d’entrainement aux méthodes d’éducation active (CEMÉA) -Training center of methods of active
education - are a mouvement of education attentive to the developpement of the persons in their globality. New education that CEMÉA promotes, relies on the experience and the expression of the persons and is build in a tight contact between paractice and theory. The Ceméa thinks that training is the main way of action to empower citizenship and allow people to transform themselves, their environement and institutions.

As a vocational training organisation, we offer training in the following areas :
• education and animation sectors (Youth and Sport diplomas: CPJEPS, BPJEPS, DEJEPS of different mentions),
• social and medico-social (Educator Monitors, Care families, Educational and Social Support Workers).
Every year, we train 2500 learners.

We are involved in various measures to support professional integration, with young people (2nd chance schools in which we offer individualized courses to young school drop-outs to find the training or trade that best suits their needs, support for artistic and cultural project leaders) and adults.
CEMA Occitanie develops a diversity of actions and partnerships in the sectors of the culture (spectator support, image education, festival organization, culture for people within the judicial system), social (support for young people, social support for people in situation of social precariousness), education (complementary educational and civic actions in school, holiday and leisure sector, support for parents, actions around secularism and gender equality).
Our team is composed of 85 permanent staff.

CEMÉA Occitanie has been involved in international projects for 15 years. European activity becomes transversal to reach the different sectors activities, teams, and learning audiences. Accompanying young people in local and international volunteering is an opportunity for us to open a space of non-formal education and a space of intercultural education for all the young people. International volunteering participate to intercomprehension, to breake stereotypes, to gain social skills and give the possibility to be involved in active and collective solidarity. Through our commitment in this programm, we promote volunteering as a tool for all people of civil society to act with others in the construction of a european and international citizenship.
The CEMEA will give the volunteers the opportunity to understand the values of New Education movement and to live an intercultural approach through different kinds of activities :
*organisation of cultural events
*Animation for various publics (children, adults, old people)
*promotion of ESC by presenting their volunteering experience, participation to the pre-departure trainings of the french volunteers, intercultural trainings organised by Ceméa.
*Creation, organisation and realisation of one or several personal projects according to the volunteer skills. The project will have to fit with the Ceméa's fields of action and will give the volunteers the opportunity to develop their spirit of initiative.
*Participation to the association group life along with the other militants
*Webmaster activities to develop digital skills (creation of flyers and brochures, newsletter writing, updating the association website).
