description of organisation

The aim of the association is to create a social system where all children have equal opportunities and, as adults, can live a self-fulfilling life regardless of their origin, place of residence, financial situation or the possibilities of their families.

We wish to reduce child poverty, increase the opportunities of disadvantaged children through their education and social inclusion. Furthermore, we intend to create a society where people from different backgrounds get to know and help each other and cooperate. Another objective is the improvement of the social and economic situation of children born in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, an extremely disadvantaged area of Hungary. Further aims: promoting volunteering and social responsibility, running a Community and Children’s Centre in Hernádszentandrás, as well as channelling human and material resources into the area.

In the organisation, we have two main types of aimed at helping children who lack opportunities, and come from a mainly Roma background.

With our volunteers, we regularly travel to Hernádszentandrás where we run the following activities:

1. After-school support programme

• support in school studies
• skills development
• mentoring
• group sessions
• camps, excursions
• thematic groups (for example video making course, dance course)

2. Early childhood development

In this part of the project we carry out skills development activities for children aged 0 to 6 years. Our volunteers visit the families in their homes and deal with the children there. In this way, it is not only the child that receives support, but we also indirectly educate the parents. The coaching of the parents is a very sensitive area of our work, since some of them are in need, lacking education and work and, as a result, parenting is the only field where they can feel successful. We hope that through witnessing good examples, the relationship with their children will also improve.
