Description of organisation

NiG (North German Youth in International Community Service) is a non-profit association based in Rostock, Germany. NiG was founded by students from the University of Rostock who were interested in both social and ecological issues. The association is dedicated to international understanding between young people of all nationalities and the ideas of the peace movement. Much of the work is done by volunteers.
Since 1990 the association is organizing and realizing volunteer projects: two to three week workcamps and youth meetings - mainly in Germany but also abroad. These projects are open for participants from all over the world, between 16 and 30 years old. In a workcamp the volunteers work on charitable projects on social, ecological and historical topics. Since 2018, there has been a special focus on integrating migrants and refugees into NiG projects. For this purpose, additional to the workcamps also workshops are organized locally: in educational, cross medial, cultural and sporting field as well as for work integration.
NiG also sends volunteers abroad to worldwide projects coordinated by partner organizations, similar to NiG. The target group for this are young people between the ages of 15 and 30 from Germany. NiG is a member of the international network of the "Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations" with 53 member organizations, primarily in Europe but also all over the world.
