Description of organisation

On the Road has been operating since 1994 through intervention in prostitution and trafficking of human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation, with a particular focus on street prostitution of migrant women and minors, often victims of trafficking organized and managed by criminal organizations.
On the Road intervenes in cases of discomfort and/or cases of risk stemming from prostitution, and therefore also addresses issues faced by Italian prostitutes (including drug addicts) and Italian and foreign transvestites and transsexuals. On the Road has also widened its fields of action to other and new issues such as forms of trafficking other than for the purpose of sexual exploitation, refugees and asylum seekers, women victims of violence, homeless and other forms of marginalization and poverty.
On the Road develops structured activities and services directly addressed to the people affected by such forms of exclusion, with an approach based on the promotion and protection of individuals’ rights.
Simultaneously, On the Road, from a local, national and trans-national perspective, contributes to the promotion of the policies in the field, to the elaboration of models of intervention, of professional profiles and of training curricula; it carries out research-intervention projects and issues a variety of publications.
The history of On the Road, in its 25 years, has had a constantly harmonious development and process contextual with the historical moment it was experiencing. It was born as a voluntary association (according to Law n.266 (91)) in the period 1994-2010, when there were many volunteers, in 2010 it was transformed in Onlus Association with legal personality at the Prefecture of Teramo. Now On the Road has seen a significant growth of activities and its economic balance, with an important increase in the number of operators and their relative contractual stabilization, it has decided to move to a congruous legal form like the social cooperative.
On the Road Società Cooperativa Sociale has been active since October 31st 2019, and since November 21st it has been registered in the Marche Region Register of Social Cooperatives - Section A; the legal form and the company name has changed, but On the Road Società Cooperativa Sociale preserves the experiences, certifications and skills developed over the years as an association.
