World Academy for Local Government and
Democracy (WALD) is a non-governmental organization established in 1993, considering democratic local governments are fundamental institutions to settle and revive democracy and human rights and believing principles adopted by local governments should be revised and consistently discussed and developed.
Bringing theory and practice together under a single roof and enabling exchange of opinions and experiences, WALD offers a forum on which activities are conducted and announced to the public in order to share goals of democracy and human rights and create an efficient local government.
In line with this purpose, WALD is engaged in activities which make a difference in human life by creating unique, innovative and permanent values to develop common potential and hand awareness of social sensitivity down to next generations.Since May 10, 1993 when WALD announced its name to the world; it has been conducting activities for participation of local governments in democracy, institutionalism of methods and processes and protection of human rights, by bringing the concepts of local government and democracy together in a common platform and supporting activities to ensure democracy is deeply comprehended among local governments.
It takes an active role in national and international projects contributing to development of environments that encourage to create equal opportunities for especially women, children, young, disabled and all disadvantaged groups and support their active participation in the society.
WALD enables rapid development of the society, offers options for solution of problems and contributes to democratization process with projects that it supports in the field of human rights, democracy, education, health, and culture.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
