Immaginaria - Cooperativa Sociale Onlus, is an organization founded in the Italian city of Benevento, in March 2012. The team works on the international youth field, cooperating with different European and Italian organizations. The team is composed a diverse but cohesive group of young artists, trainers, operators and volunteers, and professional crew members in communication and project management. We work on cultural and socio-educational animation creating non-formal educational activities that aim at fighting against social discrimination trying to empower and improve the quality of life of children, youth, disable people, prisoners and generally disadvantaged groups via social arts. Our main goals are to promote innovative forms of theater education, focusing on social arts, raise socially active citizenship, promote non-formal and informal education, voluntarism, ecology and awareness through the personal development and the development of the community, and to promote and promote tolerance and integration via social arts, since we believe that art is a useful tool to promote social inclusion and to achieve proactive involvement. For us, art is not only for the experts, or the elite. But it is a human need for the everyday person to beautify its life; since art can be found everywhere: inside our houses and balconies, out in the streets, in nature. If we can offer cultural connections to the youth from a very young age and make a safe space that they can practice social art and explore themselves through art, it could be a refreshment for the society and generate multiple benefits on a personal, community, national and global level. Our main working methods are “non-formal, experiential learning by doing", since we prefer a first practical approach to explore any social matter and try to immerse on it with reflections, dissemination activities and evaluations, always in connection with the personal and social development of the participants. Briefly, Immaginaria has the main purposes:
• the promotion of local and cultural autonomy of communities;
• the promotion of innovative forms of theatrical (in particular social theater), musical and audio-visual education;
• the protection and promotion of the quality of the local and traditional heritage;
• the training of each individual aimed at active citizenship;
• the awareness and development of social inclusion in the area.
Working towards the above, our mainly pedagogical and artistic training constitutes mostly a starting point for discovering and implementing in different socio-cultural sectors different methods and tools, in an attempt to be always capable of conveying and promoting personal, social and cultural growth for ourselves and our participants. This need has been born from the desire to combine our skills, knowledge and professionalism to support, develop and sustain a highly innovative reality in the field of cultural promotion in Italy and abroad.
