Description of organisation

The Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa Beja delegation has two ERPis, SAD, Social support and non-urgent users. The Portuguese Red Cross strives to prevent and alleviate human suffering, in Portugal and worldwide. CVP's mission is to provide humanitarian and social assistance, especially to the most vulnerable, preventing and repairing suffering and contributing to the defense of life, health and human dignity. [Article 5, Decree-Law No. 281/2007, 7 August] For the development of our activity, we mobilize the “Power of Humanity”, as well as the generosity of donors and partners across the country. As the National Society of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, we act in compliance with the fundamental principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Volunteering, Unity and Universality.
Our organization is based on Fundamental principles:
At the 20th International Conference in Vienna from 2–9 October 1965, delegates "proclaimed" seven fundamental principles which are shared by all components of the Movement, and they were added to the official statutes of the Movement in 1986. The durability and universal acceptance is a result of the process through which they came into being in the form they have. Rather than an effort to arrive at agreement, it was an attempt to discover what successful operations and organisational units, over the past 100 years, had in common. As a result, our Fundamental Principles were not revealed, but found – through a deliberate and participative process of discovery. That makes it even more important to note that the text that appears under each "heading" is an integral part of the Principle in question and not an interpretation that can vary with time and place.
Humanit y- The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.
Impartiality - It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavours to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.
Neutrality - In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.
Independence - The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the Movement.
Voluntary Service - It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.
Unity - There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.
Universality - The Cruz Vermelha and its delegation in Beja believes in universality, in which all Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
