Description of organisation

Barbagia is a region of extraordinary beauty, which hosts the highest mountains of Sardinia, century-old and monumental trees, suggestive rivers and waterfalls, wild woods, enchanting lakes and a wide variety of habitats and biodiversity. Policies of recent years were aimed to preserve this invaluable heritage and to enhance environment.
The three hirstorical capitals of Barbagia region are Ollolai, Seulo and Belvì.

The Municipality of Belvì takes care of interests of its community, promotes the development and the civil, social and economic progress, guarantees the participation of citizens and associations in the choices and life of the community.
The Municipality of Belvì consists of 4 departments: administrative, technical, financial and socio-cultural areas.
The socio-cultural area, in particular, is responsible for providing support to people with fewer opportunities (elderly, children, people with disabilities, immigrants, etc.), promoting youth activities in the cultural, artistic and sports events and ensuring the right of education and training to everyone.
Among activities carried out by the Municipality: the organization and promotion of cultural and artistic events, the management of the public library service, the management of the Park, the Natural Science Museum and the open-air museum of contemporary art, the direct or indirect management of sports and entertainment facilities (Centre for social gathering , adventure park, bike park , hiking and mountain biking trails, climbing routes), the organization of sports events (mountain biking, summer camps for orienteering, mountain biking and archery ... ) .
The Municipality of Belvì, as its statutory objectives, encourages and promotes sports and social and youth tourism.
The town of Belvì joined the Covenant of Mayors and has submitted to the European Commission its Action Plan for Sustainable Energy . Belvì is also one of the 20 pioneer communities that have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Region of Sardinia under the Smart City project, which involves the testing of models and protocols to reduce emissions of climate-altering gases .
For two years, together with hundreds of organizations in more than thirty countries in Europe the town of Belvì has been attending and organizing the Sustainable Energy Week, aimed to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
The town of Belvì, together with 10 more towns, is member of Mountain Community - Gennargentu Mandrolisai and constitutes, together with 18 other municipalities, the Local Action Group ( LAG ) "Rural District BMGS ( Barbagia - Mandrolisai - Gennargentu )".
