description of organisation

The currently named TC Teatro Carnide is born from the fusion of Sociedade Dramática (Dramatic Society), funded on the 28th of June of 1912 with Grupo de Teatro de Carnide (Carnide’s Teather Group), funded in 1963. After 50 years of activity, Carnide’s Dramatic Society, initiates a new cycle and gains projection and visibility with the creation of Grupo de Teatro de Carnide.
Under the direction of the prestigious play director, Bento Martins, several great screens written by different authors were taken to the stage, from Bernardo Santareno to the great Shakespeare classics. TC Teatro Carnide celebrated on the 23rd of June of 2013 its centennial birthday as one of the pioneer collectivities in the north part of Lisbon.
Rooted in the community it inserts itself in, TC’s work is undeniable as a major drive force of culture. I tis currently connected to an artistic work of research and experimentation, through investigating new ways of screen writing for theater and also new scenic formats to accompany it, and which materialize itself in creations /productions regularly shown to the public.
Due to the pertinency of the work that has been consistently carried out, the team that ensures the implementation of the annual plan of activities of TC has been together for 10 years. TC is auto-sustainable, especially due to its network of partnerships and formal or informal support that ensure continuity and the execution of an activity plan that is suitable to its resources. Due to the current board’s priorities, it doesn’t possess staff on a regular basis so as to avoid confusion and the overlapping of responsibilities and tasks.
Guided by these principles, TC’s structure is built upon 4 main pillars: creation/production; openness and reception; training; community. Through each of these guiding pillars, we fulfill our mission and the association’s objectives, while aiming to reach the community we are integrated in.
