Description of organisation

Der Förderverein e.V. Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasium fördert das Schulleben des Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasiums Schönebeck/Elbe und unterstützt die Schulgemeinschaft bei der Ausgestaltung schulischer Aktivitäten, fördert Maßnahmen des Schulprogramms und hilft bei der Wahrung von Traditionen. Als eine der derzeit 27 Europaschulen des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt wird die Arbeit der Schulgemeinschaft unterstützt, diesen 2019 verliehenen Titel mit Leben zu erfüllen.
Als allgemeinbildende Schule steht das Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasium mit seinem Schulprogramm u.a. auf den Säulen der gesellschaftlichen und kosmopolitischen Bildung. Dies ist um so wichtiger, da sich die Schule in einer strukturschwachen Region befindet.
Das Dr.-Carl-Hermann Gymnasium ist nicht nur MINT-freundliche Schule, sondern sieht sich als Europaschule auch verpflichtet, ein überdurchschnittlich breites Angebot an Fremdsprachen anzubieten.
Der Förderverein unterstützt Arbeitsgemeinschaften, ehrt besonderen Engagement der Schülerinnen und Schüler und verleiht einen eigenen Preis an die Abiturientinnen und Abiturienten mit den besten Ergebnissen. Auf diese Weise fördert der Förderverein Leistungen und Engagement von Schülerinnen und Schülern in der Schule und außerhalb. Durch die finanzielle Unterstützung von Studienfahrten z.B. ins Europäische Ausland ermöglicht es der Förderverein allen Kindern und Jugendlichen der Schulgemeinschaft, Begegnungen mit europäischen Ländern zu machen, Bekanntschaften im Ausland zu schließen und einen Beitrag zum Fremdsprachenerwerb zu leisten.

The Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasium Schönebeck is a general secondary school with pupils aged 10-18.
Schönebeck is located in the immediate vicinity of Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt.
The school has no designated specialisation, but holds the titles "School without Racism - School with
Courage" and "MINT-friendly School" (school with offerings in the natural sciences, mathematics and
computer science) as well as the title "European School".
The 28 European schools in Saxony-Anhalt work together in a network across all school types and
have designed their school programmes with an international focus. This includes an above-average
range of foreign languages to be learned as well as extracurricular activities to deepen knowledge
about the European Union.
Partnerships with schools in other countries enrich this offer, as does participation in projects within
the framework of the ERASMUS programme. The aim of this work is to familiarise pupils with the
workings of the individual institutions of the EU, to educate them about democracy and to familiarise
them with and understand the lifestyles and cultural traditions of other cultures.
At the Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasium, these goals are realised in many ways. For this, the teachers
need support, which could be provided by young Europeans of the European Solidarity Corps.
The cultures of other countries should be presented in class. This includes customs as well as political
convictions and daily political views.
The use of foreign languages as working languages should motivate pupils to learn foreign languages
and use them in an intercultural context.
A large part of this work is done through the "Café international", which is run by a student company
of the school as a break time catering service and which serves as a contact point for intercultural
European work. Designing and organising projects for this purpose is part of the assignment for a
European volunteer.
The working group "School without Racism - School with Courage" is always looking for European
supporters for its work, as it increasingly deals with issues of work and values within the European
Union that are relevant for the pupils and presents these in effective projects.
The Dr.-Carl-Hermann-Gymnasium is always interested in picking up new ideas and looks forward to
the support of the European Solidarity Corps volunteers.
