Description of organisation

We bought Son Barrina in 1997 and immediately began its restoration and regeneration as an ecological farm. We have always felt that this oasis was for sharing. In 2005 we organized a gardening club for children and parents, closely followed by a large community garden. We made a space for young people to start a composting business and another to learn about biochar.

Since we closed our store in December 2017, we have not worked to generate a profit. Our personal wages are covered by long-term rental of the main house on the property. Any surplus we have been reinvesting in the land and trees.

In 2014 we set aside a piece of land for a permaculture demonstration site that has been designed and used by Permamed for educational purposes. A year ago, we reserved another piece of land for the Permaculture Youth to design and execute their own projects that have also been supported by an Erasmus Solidarity grant.

On a part of the remaining land, we have been planting trees every year, slowly creating a food forest, with more emphasis on the forest. We have a lot more land that we want to forest. Our goal is to create a green oasis, doing our bit against climate change and making space available for teaching and learning.

Our interest in this began many years ago when we observed the changes in the people who attended the courses that we organized on the farm by international permaculture teachers such as Darren Doherty, Rosemary Morrow, Brock Goldman from Oxidental in California, Robina McCurdy and many others. We have organized both residential and short courses in the Son Barrina space. Now with the large house rented, we can no longer do residential courses. However we still would like to share what we have learned and out experiences with young people.


Compramos Son Barrina en 1997 e inmediatamente comenzamos su restauración y regeneración como finca ecológica. Siempre hemos sentido que este oasis era para compartir. En 2005 organizamos un club de jardinería para niños y padres, seguido de cerca por un gran jardín comunitario. Hicimos un espacio para que los jóvenes iniciaran un negocio de compostaje y otro para aprender sobre el biocarbón.
Desde que cerramos nuestra tienda en diciembre de 2017, no hemos trabajado para generar ganancias. Nuestros salarios personales se cubren mediante el alquiler a largo plazo de la casa principal de la propiedad. Cualquier excedente lo hemos estado reinvirtiendo en la tierra y los árboles. En 2014 reservamos una porción de tierra para un sitio de demostración de permacultura que ha sido diseñado y utilizado por Permamed con fines educativos. Hace un año reservamos otro terreno para que la Juventud de la Permacultura diseñara y ejecutara sus propios proyectos que también han sido apoyados por una beca Solidaria de Erasmus. En una parte de la tierra restante hemos estado plantando árboles cada año, creando lentamente un bosque de alimentos, con más énfasis en el bosque. Tenemos bastante más tierra que deseamos forestar. Nuestro objetivo es crear un oasis verde, aportando nuestro granito de arena contra el cambio climático y poniendo a disposición el espacio para la enseñanza y el aprendizaje. Nuestro interés en esto comenzó hace muchos años cuando observamos los cambios en las personas que asistían a los cursos que organizamos en la granja por maestros de permacultura internacionales como Darren Doherty, Rosemary Morrow, Brock Goldman de Oxidental en California, Robina McCurdy y muchos otros. Organizamos cursos tanto residenciales como cortos en el espacio de Son Barrina.
