Description of organisation
The Association of Parents of People with Cerebral Palsy of A Coruña (ASPACE Coruña) is a non-profit association declared of public utility that was created in 1977 by a group of mothers and fathers in the absence of public or private resources for their children /ace. The entity's mission is to improve the quality of life of people with cerebral palsy and psychophysical disabilities, offering them all the support they need so that they can have a life as full and happy as possible.
Before describing our association, let's talk about cerebral palsy. It is a disability that occurs in 1 in 500 people and is caused by a permanent injury to the brain during pregnancy, childbirth or the first years of life. It is a disability that affects posture and movement, and can be accompanied by a sensory or intellectual disability to a greater or lesser degree. Cerebral palsy cannot be cured, it is not a disease, but the person can have a full life if all the treatments and supports that he needs are provided.
The association, whose headquarters are in the municipality of Sada, currently serves 116 people with cerebral palsy in different spaces: Early Care, Special Education Center, Day Center and Residential Center. The entity, which has the UNE EN ISO 9001: 2015 quality certification, offers these people and their families a staff of professionals specialized in cerebral palsy who develop services that respond to the needs of this group: physiotherapy, aquatic activities, occupational therapy, social work, nursing, education, new technologies, adapted dining and transportation, leisure, etc.
Our work focuses not only on attending to the basic needs of these people, but on betting on projects that guarantee their physical and especially social well-being, promoting their development as people and their relationship with the environment. We carry out projects and activities focused on the needs of people with cerebral palsy, making a great commitment to the use of new technologies and home automation as tools for the personal and social development of this group. On our website (www.aspacecoruna.org), also on Facebook (@ Aspace.Coruna), on Twitter (@ASPACECoruna) and on Instagram (@aspacecoruna) we show the work we do and the services we offer, always putting first rise to people with cerebral palsy.
ASPACE Coruña is part of the ASPACE Movement, grouped under the ASPACE Confederation, which brings together more than 80 entities from all over Spain specialized in cerebral palsy and that provide the most appropriate services to each life stage of the person.
