description of organisation

The Maison de l’Europe Dunkerque et Flandre Littorale (Europe Direct Centre since 2005) is a non-profit organization which has been raising Dunkirk citizens’ awareness for Europe for more than 40 years. The target area is Dunkirk Urban Community, composed of 17 communes and 200,000 inhabitants, the Flandre Maritime territory, the Flandre intérieure and the Littoral Hauts-de-France (Calais ; Boulogne sur Mer).
Popular education about Europe includes 4 main lines of action :
-information at the resource centre open every day of the week, on the Facebook page, onTwitter and by broadcasting reports and teasers on Youtube.
-European awareness sessions for groups most isolated from EU matters (26,000 people reached in 2019)
-assistance to project organisers eligible for European funding (individuals, non-profit organizations, civil society, local authorities…)
-specific actions, such as :
-from 2015 the implementation of 900 workshops per year « Discovery of our English, Belgian and German neighbours’ culture and language » for more than 3000 children from 6 to 10
- the implementation of workshops « Work in Belgium » for Dunkirk job seekers (more than 2,000 participants from 2007, half of them crossed the « border » located at less than 10 km from Dunkirk, one third of them works nowadays in Belgium while living and consuming in Dunkirk).
Our non-profit organization has developed a high level of expertise on cross-border matters because of its privileged location, 10 km from the Belgian province of West Flanders, 40 km from the United Kingdom, 1h30 from the Netherlands and 400 km from Germany.
The Maison de l’Europe Dunkerque et Flandre Littorale has been a member of the Fédération Française des Maisons de l’Europe from 1990, and is a member of the European Network for Education and Training (EUNET).
It is also approved by the French Ministry of Youth and Sports and recognized by the French Ministry of Education as a non-profit organization providing education complementary to public education.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
