description of organisation

Ediktum is a non-profit organization based in Budapest, Hungary. With almost 20 years of experience in legal aid, education, sustainable development, social growth, social inclusion, and policy research, can bring significant managerial and technical capacity for the partnership that can lead to the successful implementation of the project. We have a wide range of expertise in the education of different cultures, ages, and social strata, we deeply understand the demands of society looks for in education (let it be digital or offline).

1. Ediktum Endowment was established in 2004 with the main purpose of helping people coming to Hungary with the purpose of living, working, or studying here. Up to 2012, our main profile was on supporting legal help.

2. From 2014 we turned to the direction of education. Mainly education of non native Hungarian speaking children and related cultural mediation between parents, schools, and other actors in the education system.

3. We also have experience with children with special needs. At the development center we welcome children who have autism or have signs of delayed speech development. Is not a problem that one or both of the parents are non-native Hungarian speakers. We started a special educational center early this year to organize all the knowledge we collected in the past, it’s called as the Healing Dandelion Development Center (Gyógypitypang Fejlesztő Központ), www.gyogypitypang.hu

4. Due to education and cultural mediation, we had a very detailed overview of the difficulties a non-native Hungarian speaking, a child with special needs and many minority children or family needs to face with living in Hungary:

no common language with their majority society
no common or not known conventional metacommunication
different methods of learning
different condition of mental status (grief, depression, anger, etc.)
facing different environment than got used to
facing discrimination etc.

5. We support schools (kindergartens, primary schools, vocational training schools, high schools) to re-write their policies in terms of minorities, newcomers, and disabled pupils and students

6. We support schools to teach digital skills for teachers and students

7. We support low-skilled youth to reach better educational goals

8. We support elderly care by planning elderly learning and activity courses

9. We provide kindergarten or school counseling for all children and families who come in contact with us. In addition to arranging institutional visits, we also provide a helping hand in preparing for admission.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
