The Red Cross in Sanguedo is part of the Portuguese Red Cross. Our mission is to provide humanitarian and social assistance, especially to the most vulnerable, preventing and repairing suffering and contributing to the defence of life, health and human dignity, following the fundamental principles of Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Volunteering, Unity and Universality. To do so, we mobilize the “Power of Humanity”, through the generosity of volunteer people (mostly young people), as well as the generosity of donors and partners.
Our main activities are:
-Pre-hospital emergency and transport of non-urgent patients;
-Social support to needy families (e.g. Solidarity shop, to provide the community with clothing, footwear, school and home items; Solidarity market, with the collection and storage of basic food items from donations and preparation of solidarity baskets for subsequent distribution to needy families);
-Therapies in the areas of physical and psychological health (e.g. Psychology consultations, Acupuncture and Chromotherapy, Osteopathy, Life and Business Coaching sessions);
-Recreational and training actions (e.g. Cooking, Creative sewing, Painting, Dramatic expression workshops, etc);
-Local Youth Body Actions, to promote civic participation and social responsibility, namely, developing peer to peer non-formal education, including volunteering activities, in the following interventional areas:
a)Health Promotion and Education:
-Prevention of alcohol and drugs use;
-Promotion of healthy eating habits;
-Prevention of excessive sun exposure.
b)Intervention for Social Inclusion:
-Promotion of social inclusion of children and young people;
-Promotion of gender equality;
-Prevention of bullying;
-Prevention of dating violence.
c)Environmental Education:
-Projects related to recycling;
-Practices within the scope of the preservation of nature, forests and respective ecosystems;
-Prevention of forest fires and other disasters with an environmental impact;
-Monitoring and repair of affected territories.
d)Humanitarian Education:
-Human rights education programs and activities;
-Projects to prevent human trafficking.
e)Employability and Entrepreneurship:
-Peer training in job search;
-Social entrepreneurship and sustainability projects associated with our local structure;
-Local volunteering promotion.
