Akademia Przygody (The Academy of Adventure, www.akademiaprzygody.org) is a non-profit organization specialized in educational activities for children, adolescents and adults based on contact with nature, survival training, and craft learning. It is located in the town of Kłodzko in Lower Silesia, Poland. It was created in 1988 and originated from the Scout movement. Akademia Przygody is based in the unique fortification complex of Kłodzko Fortress. It acts within the framework of the Centre for Education and Historical Preservation, engaged in the protection of monuments of eighteenth-century military architecture inter alia.
Akademia Przygody has the following targets:
- educational work with children through trips in the nature;
- conservation and restoration of the fortification remains;
- job training in manual work spheres like: tree cutting, climbing, work in building areas, conservation of monuments;
- youth trainer education;
The projects of Akademia Przygody are mainly realized in the fortification of Kłodzko, which serves as a meeting and planning base. The youth trainers organize camps and trips, enabling the young participants to spend their free time in an active way: through rafting, climbing and camping. The youngsters can also visit the Kłodzko Fortress any time to help with the reconstruction and learn the related techniques.
The activities of Akademia Przygody also have a strong ethical dimension. The trainers oppose drug and alcohol consume, and are determined to serve as good examples for the younger colleagues. The participants of the camps learn how to cooperate within the group, as they have to stick to a couple of simple rules: nobody eats before everyone has a meal in front of him; everybody helps in the base with the meals, wood collecting, washing or carrying. If the group is to solve a problem, everyone is obliged to participate. Conflicts are to be confronted and solved at the very moment.
