description of organisation

The Marom Club Association has been operating in Hungary for more than 20 years. Our mission is to build a more tolerant and more open society, both locally and nationally, through and with the help of culture as a powerful medium. Our mission is to create a society in which people who are underprivileged, and discriminated by the majority on religious, ethnic or other grounds, are treated equally and have equal rights.

The Marom Club Association started as a Jewish Youth Cultural Organization in 1999. However, over the years, while maintaining its focus, it broadened its activities and became one of the most important civil society organizations. With the power of the community, our goal is to create a society that is more just, protects the weak, helps the underprivileged, respects and celebrates otherness and fights all forms of exclusion and oppression by peaceful means.

To achieve this, we create spaces and events where both groups and individuals with shared values can work and meet each other safely. We create independent locations where the community can freely share ideas, where action and participation are encouraged. These locations also provide shelter in the shrinking space of freedom and independence. Our current key projects include the Bánk Lake Festival, launched in 2009, the Aurora Community and Civic Centre, founded in 2014, and the Free Spaces Network, which has been operating since 2019.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
