Asti is located in the North of Italy. The Municipality represents its community, takes care of its interests and promotes its development and it has an office dedicated to the drafting of projects financed by public and private, local, regonal, national and european bodies, with the goal of increasing awareness of European citizenship.
The municipality of Asti has always shown itself to be very attentive to socio-educational and voluntary issues, but in recent years the focus on European issues of a sense of belonging, a European identity for young people in the area has expanded. During the Covid-19 pandemic and now with the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, population and associations have once again shown a strong propensity for welcoming and mutual support.The city has applied as the European Capital of Volunteering 2023, arriving among the finalists. This candidacy has awarded the municipality of Asti as part of the network of European Volunteering Capital Candidates Community (EVCCC).
The focus of all the activities planned by the city is therefore certain centered on young citizens, with a view to recirculating and sharing ideas, skills and resources available to those with fewer opportunities and with a view to mutual informal learning. Asti has a long-standing experience in local volunteering and volunteers’ management, so ESC' activities are great opportunity to open up to Europe and experiment with different realities, outside their own comfort zone.
