Lernlabor is a Berlin-based social business. We are located in Atelier Gardens, near to the Tempelhof Field and close to the vibrant, mullti-cultural neighbourhood of Neukölln. Lernlabor promotes non-formal education, (inter)cultural exchange and Youth Participation. The main tools that we use are Arts & Culture and Outdoor Education. We organise regular activities here in Berlin including inter-cultural pick-nicks, workshops on various topics that foster creativity and community, as well as concerts and events. We organise a weekly climbing session in cooperation with a local section of the German Alpine Club which is open to participants of all backgrounds and abilities. And we have our own Choir, which meets weekly in our Berlin office under the guidance of a professional choirmaster. Our local target groups are young people and adults from migrant backgrounds, including the local West African community as well as Ukrainians and people of colour displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In addition to our local activities, we organise regular international projects, such as international youth exchanges, training courses for youth workers, seminars, retreats and residencies for emerging artists.
As a volunteer in our organisation you would be integrated into our team in our Berlin office and would have the opportunity to assist our staff, facilitators and local community members in the implementation of our local activities with the above-mentioned target groups. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in our international projects, especially if they dovetail with their learning and personal development goals.
The Lernlabor team and community comprises of people with diverse backgrounds and from differing countries and cultures. We place an emphasis on openness and tolerance for people from different backgrounds and we encourage our volunteers to approach their tasks with a similar mindset. We also place importance on empowering people with fewer opportunities and encourage applications from prospective volunteers who face economic, cultural and geographical obstacles. In addition to our webpage, the best place get an impression of our activities is via our social media channels: instagram.com/lernlabor.berlin ; facebook.com/lernlaborberlin
