Description of organisation

The My Rainbow Institute - Community Support for Persons with Less Opportunities, Ljubljana is established to carry out activities to establish and provide community support and assistance to persons with less opportunities. We operate on the principle of peer support, using social work (and other) concepts and principles of providing support and assistance and social justice. We focus more specifically on the LGBTQIA+ community and persons with mental health issues, and we have both professional expertise and experience to address these topics.

Through its activities, the Institute wants to encourage and ensure:
- a higher level of solidarity within and towards the LGBTQIA+ community
- co-creation of communities
- peer support with a focus on young people, as well as researching and responding to the needs of other generations and ages, connecting (intragenerational and intergenerational integration and support)
- fill the gray areas between institutional and informal forms of support and assistance and provide support in the form of relevant information, connectivity, developing a sense of belonging, gaining corrective experience
- strengthen and expand the resources of LGBTQIA + people
- work towards greater freedom, democracy, mutual understanding and respectful coexistence, justice and security in society
- Raise awareness and accessibility of mental health care
- develop competencies and explore ways to talk about and respond to difficult topics.
