The „Diakonie München und Oberbayern“ (Munich and Upper Bavaria) is one of the largest diaconal complex providers in Bavaria. The areas of assistance range from child, youth, and family assistance, elderly assistance, assistance for the homeless and offenders, asylum and migration work, and assistance for people with disabilities, mental illnesses and addiction. It is located in the city of Munich and the surrounding counties, southern Upper Bavaria and Swabia.
Part of the Diakonie München und Oberbayern is the „Diakoniedorf Herzogsägmühle“, about 1.5 hours' drive south-west of Munich. Within the framework of an open village community, children, young people and adults with problems, illnesses or disabilities receive help with their personal, social and professional development or find a home and care in old age.
The ESC volunteers will be working at two residential homes (48 places in total) for adults with severe multiple disabilities in Herzogsägmühle. Both homes are in the immediate vicinity of a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities and a support center which offers a structured daily programme for people not able to go to the sheltered workshop (any more).
The main task in these two homes is to provide educational support and assistance to people with severe multiple disabilities. The aim of the work is to give the residents a home, to maintain and improve their quality of life and to enable them to participate in society.
