Lipka school facility for environmental education

Brno, Czech Republic

Description

Rozmarýnek is the second oldest training facility of Lipka. It designs and implements natural science and environmental education programmes for primary and secondary schools, mostly outdoors and afternoon courses and camps, especially for kids. A lot of their activities are connected with animals. The unique garden with permaculture elements, which is open to all visitors also enables Rozmarýnek to run courses on permaculture for professional public, pedagogues and enthusiasts from afar. Jezírko is situated in Soběšice, a part of Brno. Its primary focus are one day and residential educational programmes for primary and secondary schools but is also a meeting place for children attending afternoon courses and camps on holidays and public events. The courses focus primarily on natural sciences, tourism and processing of natural materials. The facility’s employees participate in supervising bachelor and master’s theses of students and provide internships and observations.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will live in a flat (private room, shared flat) in Brno. He/She will have lessons of Czech language and meetings with EVS coordinator and other volunteers – there will be group of other EVS volunteers, working in other partner organizations in Brno. Volunteers have 2 days a week free + 2 days per month of vacation. They are provided with card for public transport, get pocket money and food allowance monthly.

Training during the activity

On-arrival and midterm training organized by National Agency, on-arrival "orientation week" organized by Luzanky for group of our volunteers (intensive Czech language course, orientation in Brno, Czech culture, law, etc.). Volunteers can also all year round visit some of the courses and events organized by Luzanky for free to learn something new and for recreation (s.a. circus trainings for adults, ceramics).

Participant profile

In Rozmarýnek the volunteer tasks will be mostly participation in children clubs, help with permaculture garden and taking care for animals. In Jezírko volunteer’s main tasks will be preparation and implementation of educational programmes for children, clubs and camps and public events. The volunteer will be encouraged to participate also in other activities. Previous experience with permaculture gardens and/or teaching would be an advantage (ability to bring new ideas, views, and methods) but is not a condition.
