Scientific research conference of Latvian secondary school students encourages the application of academic knowledge in solving practical problems. It allows the students to develop their ability to define problems, develop their own proposals for solving the research problem, and develop critical thinking. By providing an opportunity for students to engage in research, general education institutions significantly expand the competencies and abilities needed to develop creative and innovative approaches.
The development of scientific research papers and the work of the conference is organized in the following groups of scientific fields:
Natural sciences; Engineering and Technology; Medicine and Health Sciences; Agricultural, Forestry, and Veterinary Sciences; Social Sciences; Humanities and Art Sciences.
Firstly, each school evaluates the research papers of their students at School-level conferences. Secondly, 5 regional scientific conferences are held, from which the strongest participants are directed to the Country-level conference. During the conference, its participants present their research results, receive an evaluation of the research work, which has previously been evaluated by an evaluation commission or reviewers and get acquainted with the research results of other students in the specific research section. Experts are involved in the review of scientific research works and the management of scientific conferences in the final rounds.
