FoodCycle; (re)connecting with our food through cycling!

June 3 is World Bicycle Day, a day on which we
celebrate cycling (despite not being started by a
Dutch person). This initiative, organized by World Food Forum NL,
I4Nature and others, connects the pleasure and health of
cycling with the beautiful story of where our food
comes from. But it is also about much more; last
mile delivery, short food miles, CO2 emission
reduction via bikes, sustainable food systems, and great dialogues along
the way...
The goal is to reconnect people with their food
(systems) and what impact our food has (and of
course to make it a nice bike ride).
The routes are organized decentralized, with one
main tour; ChocCycle. Other tours include
Eindhoven, Wageningen, Groningen, Den Haag
and Utrecht.
This chocolate tour organized by Green Impact
Network Zoetermeer (started by Ambassador
Lisanne van Oosterhoud) will deliver chocolate
from the Chocolatemakers in Amsterdam to the
Wereldwinkel in Zoetermeer! The fair trade and
organic cocoa beans came to the Netherlands
from the Dominican Republic by the sailing ship
Tres Hombres, and processed in the sustainable
cocoa factory, covered with a roof full of solar
panels. With this bike ride, the last part of the
cocoa chain will also become sustainable.
