European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel visits the Democracy Forum in Cyprus

European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel expressed the importance of democracy and EU values at the Democracy Forum in Cyprus.


Today, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, attended the opening of the Democracy Forum in Nicosia, Cyprus. This Forum showcases the challenges that contemporary democracy is currently facing. The Democracy Forum aims at creating a favorable environment for dialogue and innovation on the thematic of democratic governance, to promote ideas that strengthen participatory democracy.

The Commissioner gave a speech at the opening session, linking the Democracy Forum in Cyprus with the key objectives of the European Year of Youth. In her speech, she argued that the European Year of Youth can be seen as a vehicle to democracy, acknowledging young people as agents of change and the bearers of ideas to build a better future.
