Ballyroan Teen Creative Writing Club: talk with YA author Clara Kumagai

Calling all young and aspiring writers in Ballyroan, Rathfarnham, Templeogue, Whitechurch and Knocklyon Area!

Join Young Adult author Clara Kumagai for her reading of her novel Catfish Rolling and a presentation about the inspirations of the novel: the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, time, and Japanese myth and folklore. We will also have some discussion and an audience Q&A. Think of all the questions you've ever wanted to ask a writer - Clara will answer them!

 

Clara Kumagai is from Canada, Japan and Ireland. Her fiction and non-fiction for children and adults has been published in The Stinging Fly, The Irish Times, Banshee and The Kyoto Journal. Her debut YA novel, Catfish Rolling (Zephyr, 2023), blends magical realism with Japanese myth in an original story about grief and memory. Catfish Rolling was nominated for the 2023 Carnegie Medal for Writing, a finalist for the 2023 Great Reads Award and won the 2023 KPMG Children's Books Ireland Book of the Year Award.
