The European Commission has nominated Ms Marta Markowska as the new EU Youth Coordinator to reinforce the cross-sectorial cooperation and knowledge sharing in the field of youth amongst the European Commission services.

Ms Marta Markowska will facilitate the Youth Check process and encourage the integration of youth perspectives in all relevant policies affecting young people (e.g. employment, education, health, climate, democracy, culture) as well as facilitating more exchanges and knowledge-sharing between the services on issues related to youth.

She will work closely with different youth stakeholders in view of raising awareness of EU opportunities for young people and youth civil society. She will also listen to their concerns and suggestions and will carry forward their messages within the Commission.

Marta is Polish Canadian and has worked in the European Commission for almost twenty years. She started off as a Blue Book Trainee in 2006 and has since then taken on several challenges across the Commission’s policy, human resources and communication files. Most recently, she was the Team Leader (for over five years) of the Digital Education Outreach and Empowerment Team in the Directorate-General responsible for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture.

The creation of the EU Youth Coordinator post is an important step towards creating better synergies between the various actions carried out by the Commission services for the benefit of young people and is included in the framework of the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027. The proposal was welcomed by the Member States with the Council Resolution of November 2018 as well as by the youth sector.

Ms. Markowska will succeed Ms. Biliana Sirakova who was the EU Youth Coordinator from June 2021 to November 2025.
