Última actualización Miércoles, 12/10/2022

A new episode of Be Europe is now available! Want to know more about mobility experiences in Europe and abroad? Interested in what it means to be European for Icelandics? Find out everything and much more in the ninth episode of the Be Europe podcast.

"If you want to go, you should go. You can find ways of doing it. I do not come from a rich family, I do not have any.. you know.. more access to money or resources than you do, but I made the most out of the programmes that have been offered to me. My Erasmus was paid, my EVS was paid, I’ve done a lot of trips through SALTO and through different ways through my volunteering, and I travelled to 54 countries; and a lot of it has been sponsored by European programmes, by different volunteering activities, and more. So, money is not an obstacle, time is not an obstacle; you are not in a race to graduate or to do whatever (...). This is the time to do it (...), if you imagine doing it after your kids may become 18, you are going to be doing something different, you are not going to be backpacking around Europe or whatever".

Alma Dóra is a 29-years-old Icelandic currently studying and teaching gender studies. Alma has had a lot of mobility experiences in Europe and abroad, from an exchange in Greece and an internship in Brussels to studies in the United States. She has worked as a gender equality specialist for the Icelandic government and has been awarded with an Icelandic innovation prize for creating an app called Heima (e. Home).

In the show Alma told us about her experience in all these experiences abroad. We also talked with her about the current situation of gender equality and what needs to be improved. But that’s not all, during the programme we also found out a bit more about her project Heima and how she realised it.
