SERVIZIO CIVILE INTERNAZIONALE APS
Service Civil International (SCI) - La Città dell'Utopia
Rome, Italy
Description
The hosting organization "La Città dell’Utopia" was born in 2003 and is today a social and cultural laboratory. It tackles the central themes connected to a new model of local and global development that is balanced, sustainable and fair. Every year La Città dell'Utopia hosts the "NO BORDER FEST", a two day long festival consisting of discussions, music, workshops and cultural events dedicated to the topics of migration, freedom of movement and resistance against any type of racism, as well as the central thematics of interculturality, a sustainable way of life and active citizenship. The volunteers will be involved in: The support of the construction and preparation of the scenography and the spaces; The logistic preparation of the festival such as cooking, cleaning, gardening; The promotion and visibility of the event through leafleting, spreading posters, preparing signs for the festival; Have an active role during the event-days and cleaning and closing of the spaces after.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be hosted in the social hostel of Casale Garibaldi run by "La Città dell'Utopia". There will be mixed rooms, with a maximum of 7 volunteers per room. Pillows and blankets will be provided by the hostel (bring your own towel), the bathrooms will be shared between the volunteers, and there will be a kitchen at disposal where the volunteers will cook and eat together. We believe in the values of sustainability and climate justice, why the food will be vegetarian/vegan, and why we also ask you to choose sustainable travel (train, bus) if possible to reach the venue.
Training during the activity
The Festival is focused on the most pressing topics that have emerged during the last months regarding the context of international migration, with a particular focus on Rome and Italy.
