Description

During the EVS the volunteers will learn all different facets of children and youth work in a theoretical and practical approach. They will have several opportunities to make contact with other volunteers. During their daily work (30h a week), they will participate in team consultations as well as internal and external meeting and professional trainings. The volunteers will work in a team and be responsible for certain tasks. It is possible to choose a project on which they can focus due to their interests and talents. Moreover, they will support and coordinate the planning and arrangement of new free time activities and projects (development of recreation ideas, educational and info boards, handicraft ideas etc.). Volunteers will also prepare and organise environmental measures with children and youth groups in the framework of offers for school classes. Also help in the children’s recreational village is needed.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers will be living in a house at KiEZ Hölzener See. He/She will have her/his own room. Also full board is given at KiEZ Hölzener See – just during holidays or according to prior agreement the volunteers will receive money to provide their own food. The volunteer will be given a monthly pass for the public transport in Berlin.

Training during the activity

The volunteers will have 1 mentor at KiEZ Hölzerner See (Fanny) and one in the VJF office (Sebastian). Before the project the volunteer will be monitored by the sending organization and they will ensure the preparation. During the project the volunteer will have on arrival trainning and mid term organised by the German National Agency. After the project the volunter will be evaluated by the sending organization.

Participant profile

As a volunteer at Hölzener See it is an advantage to have a good knowledge of German in order to be able to communicate with co-workers and visitors. Working at Hölzerner See requires teamwork spirit as well as the ability to work independently. Be prepared to work with children, so good communication skills are necessary. Volunteers should be open and willing to introduce their cultural background to the visitors of the youth club, as well as their own experiences in the field of youth work. Some computer skills are helpful for supporting PR actions and preparations of fairs and events.
